The concept of distance education could sometimes feel daunting if you are unfamiliar with the online environment. You might ask: Will I be learning completely on my own? What is the online classroom like? How do I take an exam? Will this take more or less time than an on-campus course? These are a few of the common questions that students ask. When can I join an information session?

Answer:
N.C. A&T Extended Campus: Online holds live virtual information sessions several times during the year. Find out the schedule for our information sessions.

When do A&T Online courses begin?

Answer:
A&T Online courses follow the same schedule as all other credit courses at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. Please consult the appropriate Academic Calendar for the start date for your online course(s). Depending on the faculty member, an online course may be available for student access up to a week before the scheduled start date. If you want to verify that you have correctly registered for an online course, you can view your schedule in Aggie Access Online. If you cannot log into your course on the first day of the semester, please check:
  • Retrieval of OneID from Account Information 
  • Validation Status in Aggie Access Online 
  • Verification of Receipt of Payment with the Treasurer's Office or 336-334-7721
  • Verification of Registration of Course(s) through the Registrar's Office or 336-334-7595
  • The Blackboard Support Center tab on the NCAT Blackboard homepage, for the Knowledge Base for answers to commonly asked questions. Or please call 1-866-520-6877.

Are A&T Online courses and programs easier than on-campus courses and programs?

Answer:
No, student learning outcomes in distance education courses and programs are comparable to student learning outcomes in campus-based courses and programs.

Tuition and Fees

What are the tuition rates for distance education courses?

Answer:

Can I pay for tuition in installments?

Answer:
Tuition arrangements can be made through the Office of the Treasurer.

Will financial aid pay for distance education courses?

Answer:
Distance education students who have been admitted to a degree-seeking program can apply for financial aid. For more information, visit the website for the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

What tuition do military students pay?

Answer:
Effective Spring 2023, active-duty military personnel and their dependents who are distance education students at N.C. A&T State University will be charged the in-state tuition rate. Learn more about online education at N.C. A&T State University for members of the military.

What is your tuition refund policy?

Answer:

A student is entitled to a refund when the account is overpaid and a credit balance is created. If a student enrolls in distance education courses and decides to withdraw and is due a refund, after submitting a request to be withdrawn to A&T Online, refunds are issued. Academic Advisor, Banner IDs and Pin Numbers

How do I find my academic advisor?

Answer:

Academic Advisors are assigned by the department according to your program. Select your appropriate program level below.

How do I obtain my Banner ID and where can I get my PIN number?

Answer:
  • Banner I.D. numbers replaced Social Security numbers as the student's University I.D. number. For more information about how to obtain your Banner ID, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (336) 334-7595. (Note: You will need a current A&T email address.)
  • All A&T students are issued a six-digit PIN Number that they will use to access the student system (Aggie Access). Contact either your academic advisor or chairperson of your department to receive an Alternate PIN number. Please note that PIN numbers WILL NOT be issued from the Extended Campus, the Office of the Registrar, the Help Desk, or the Blackboard staff. For more information, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (336) 334-7595.

Registration and Withdrawal Processes

How do I register for a distance education course? Can it be done via the Internet and how do I know if I am enrolled?

Answer:
Yes, it can be done online and you can verify enrollment in a distance education course by viewing your schedule in Aggie Access Online. For more information, visit the directions for registration page.

How many online courses am I allowed to enroll in per semester?

Answer:

Undergraduate students are allowed to enroll in a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours to be designated as full-time students. Graduate students are allowed to enroll in nine (9) hours to be designated as full-time students. We recommend that students consult with their advisors before enrolling in more than two (2) online courses per semester.

Are freshmen allowed to enroll in distance education courses?

Answer:
Freshmen who wish to enroll in distance education courses must have permission from their Academic Advisor or Department Chairperson.

Can I enroll in both distance education and on-campus courses?

Answer:
Yes, students can enroll in both distance education and on-campus courses during the course of a semester. All distance education sections are charged by the hourly rate, so students should consult our current distance education tuition and fee rates before enrolling in distance education courses.

What are prerequisite and corequisite Courses?

Answer:

What is the last day to register for distance education students?

Answer:
Each term, distance education students must register by the specified registration deadline. Please consult the appropriate Academic Calendar for the specific registration deadline for your online course(s).

Why has my A&T Online course registration been canceled?

Answer:
Under specific circumstances a student’s course registration will be canceled. Read more about situations in which a student's course registration will be canceled.

How do I withdraw from a distance education course(s) or the University?

Answer:

Please discuss your options with your instructor and your academic advisor first, because prior approval from them will be needed in order to complete the withdrawal process. The process for withdrawing from a distance education course(s) or the University can be found here.

Military Student Deployment Procedure

What is the deployment procedure for military students?

Answer:

As soon as you know that you will be deployed, please immediately fax a copy of your orders to the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs at 336-256-2433 and email the following: 

  • Your instructor
  • Your academic advisor
  • The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs contacts

In the email, include your full name, Banner ID, course name and number. If you have not received acknowledgement within a week, please contact the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs at 336-398-8651.

Student Insurance Plan

How do I waive or keep the student insurance plan?

Answer:
The university has recommended that all students have health insurance. Current students must pay for Student Blue insurance (through Blue Cross Blue Shield) or waive coverage and provide proof of alternative insurance. Learn more about Health Insurance policies.

Textbooks

Can I purchase textbooks from the University Bookstore?

Answer:
Yes, distance education students can access textbook information by visiting the University’s Bookstore website. Distance education students can also purchase school supplies, University paraphernalia, University-related car accessories and other miscellaneous items.

Computer Recommendations

What are the computer recommendations needed to access a course through A&T Online?

Answer:

Blackboard and Course Access

How do I log into Blackboard?

Answer:

To access Blackboard, you must be registered for at least one course. The website for Blackboard is https://blackboard.ncat.edu. Your login is your Aggie One ID. Your Aggie One ID username is the prefix of your Aggie email address. Your default password is the first 4 letters of your email username + the last 4 digits of your banner number + !NCAT!. Please refer to the example below.

How do I access my online course?

Access your online course by following these easy steps.

NCAT Active Directory Credentials (Aggie Google Mail)

Will I need an NCAT email account?

Answer:
Yes, the Blackboard Learning Management System has been configured to integrate with Microsoft Active Directory. Students and faculty will access Blackboard using the same username and password that they use to log into campus workstations and to connect to campus wireless networks (i.e. Active Directory credentials). Your Active Directory account is assigned by A&T at the time of admission. If you need your Active Directory login credentials, please contact Aggie Tech Support (336-334-7195). How do I log into my NCAT Aggie Google Mail (Gmail)?

Answer:

You may log into your NCAT Aggie Google Mail (Gmail) at this site. Your login is your NCAT Aggie Google Mail (Gmail) username, and your password will be the first four characters of the username plus the last four digits of your Banner ID.  See the example below.

Student Support Resources

Whom do I contact if I have technical difficulties in an online course?

Answer:
  • If you are enrolled in online distance education courses and your account has been validated and you experience technical difficulties with Blackboard, you can contact A&T Online office at 1-888-498-6752 (toll free) or 336-256-0355 or the Blackboard System Administrators at 336-285-4496 or bbsupprt@ncat.edu. The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • If you have problems with your Aggie Google Mail account, please contact the University Help Desk by phone (336-334-7195) or by email (helpdesk@ncat.edu). The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • If you have questions about your Blackboard course content, contact your professor (from inside your Blackboard course, click on COMMUNICATION and choose Send email). The Blackboard Student Manual is available online. To view it from inside your Blackboard course, click on Student Tools, and then click on Student Manual.

What support services are available for distance education students?

The Extended Campus provides:  

  • Student Online Learning Orientation - This orientation will walk students through strategies and tools known to help learners thrive in online environments. All students taking online classes are encouraged to complete the orientation.
  • Online Learner Support Commons - This virtual Blackboard global community is designed to support online students on their academic journey by encouraging dreams, nurturing growth, and promoting achievement. Students may self enroll using these instructions.
  • Online Learning Check-In - Online students may join rich exchanges of success tips and resources weekly on Thursdays at noon.
  • Registration assistance, if needed.
  • Assistance with logging into Blackboard.
  • Withdrawal from a course(s) and University requests for distance education students who do not live in close proximity of the University, if needed (As long as your request includes a written approval from your Academic Advisor or Department Chairperson and is received before the deadline.). Please consult the Academic Calendar for the deadline dates.

Grades and Transcript Requests for Distance Education Course(s)

Where can I see my grade(s) for my distance education course(s)?

Answer:
All grades can be found using Aggie Access Online. Students must have their Banner ID Number and six-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) that you received from your advisor.

What is the grading system for A&T Online?

Answer:

The grading system for A&T Online courses and programs is the same system used for campus-based courses and programs. Visit NCAT Grading System for more information.

How do I graduate with Honors?

Answer:

What is your grade appeals process?

Answer:
A student may appeal the final grade earned in a course. Information about the process can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin or Graduate Catalog.

How do I request a copy of my transcript?

Answer:
Official transcript requests of students' records should be addressed to the Office of the Registrar. Information regarding cost and request options, including online, are available.

Do you have an academic dishonesty policy?

Answer:
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is committed to a policy of academic honesty for all students. Examples of academic dishonesty and more information can be found here.

Does A&T Online have a policy for class attendance and participation?

Answer:
Attendance and participation requirements for each course are specified in the course syllabus. These are an important part of student learning and student success. If assignments are missed, the decision as to whether the work may be made up will be determined by the instructor. If you feel you cannot meet the attendance or participation requirements for a class, please contact your academic advisor to determine if you should switch classes or drop the course.

What are your policies regarding intellectual property and copyright?

Answer:
A&T Online's policies relating to intellectual property and copyright are commensurate with the University's policies as outlined by Institutional Research.

What are your graduation requirements?

Answer:
A candidate for a degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University must satisfy minimum general graduation requirements. See a list of these requirements. Students are encouraged to also check with their Academic Advisor or Department Chairperson for any additional specific requirements.

What about the quality of distance education courses?

Answer:
The quality and quantity of work in each distance education course should be the same as on-campus. Professors are expected to communicate with departmental chairpersons regarding course content and material used. Departmental examinations will be used whenever appropriate.

What are the acceptable use policies relating to information technology for A&T Online?

Answer:
Acceptable use of University services for students, employees, consultants, vendors, guests and/or alumni is governed by IT policies, standards, procedures and guidelines. What is the policy for student complaints?

Answer:
North Carolina A&T State University is committed to a policy of fair treatment of its students in their relationships with fellow students, faculty, staff and administrators. Students are encouraged to seek an informal resolution of the matter directly with the faculty or individual(s) involved when possible. For matters where a resolution is not feasible, a Student Complaint Form can be completed and filed with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Office located in Suite 100, Murphy Hall.
