To make sure that the University is in compliance with all relevant policies for distance education course delivery, the Extended Campus will collaborate with academic departments to assist with the deliverance of all distance education (DE) courses and programs, regardless of delivery mode. Below are the steps that are needed to deliver distance education courses.

How to Deliver a Face-to-Face Distance Education (DE) Course Away from the Campus

  • Contact the Extended Campus prior to placing any DE course in the Banner System.
      • The Extended Campus uses special section number coding on DE courses to easily identify them, indicate the mode of delivery, and generate focus reports.
      • These special codes must be placed in Banner for DE courses to assess the appropriate tuition and fee charges.
      • This helps the Extended Campus to provide a complete listing of DE courses to post on A&T Online, UNC Online, and other websites, advertise the courses to students and keep proper accounting of all DE courses.
  • Secure a site location for the course.
      • If the delivery of the DE course will involve video streaming, make sure technicians (host and delivery site) will be available.
      • If technological equipment is needed, make sure it will be available and accessible to you and/or your students
  • Hire your faculty members. It is the responsibility of the department to hire faculty and process all employment packets. (The Extended Campus does not provide financial support for the delivery of DE courses.)
  • Submit textbook information to the Bookstore. It is the responsibility of the department to provide the Bookstore with proper textbook information for all DE courses.
  • Please let the Extended Campus know if you will need assistance with
      • Student recruitment
      • Student registration

How to Deliver an Online Distance Education (DE) Course

  • In order for a course to be offered online, it must have previously been developed through our online course development process and included in our database. If your course has not been developed through our process, you must contact the Extended Campus to schedule official development.

  • Please note: Online courses must be delivered by using Blackboard Learn, which is the official Learning Management System (LMS) for the University. If you need assistance with using Blackboard Learn, please contact ITTD for training or Blackboard Support for technical issues at 336-285-4496 or bbsupprt@ncat.edu.
